How It Could (and Should!) Be - Broadcast # 1,247
GOOD MORNING GREEEEEEENNNNN ISLAND!!!!! HAHAHAHAAA FLYYY!!! BE FREE!!!!!
Announcer: Hi Mork - So glad to have you with us this morning again, on Radio Free Green Island - reaching ALL around the world on shortwave and longwave and any other wave we can find - and does THAT piss off certain people hahahahaha!! And what are you going to talk about today, on How it Could - and Should! - Be? - MugglyMork?
Mork: Well, Mindableness, I thought today I’d take a look at a few stories from around the world that talk about some new developments in Community Living we have been following - there have been some what I think are kind of significant new additions to our rolls. As you know, as we've talking about before, the last 30 years or so in the Western Capitalist World saw an increasing tendency - one which we believe was not entirely coincidental, but we are waiting for a bit more research on that from you Athenia people (hint hint hahahaa) - for people to become more and more isolated from their neighbours and neighbourhoods, and live rather solitary lives. Not entirely friendless, of course, that would be too much, although the trend was certainly to fewer and fewer such people - but to live as strangers in a strange land, as it were - living in a suburban type area with many other people, but not knowing most of those other people. And not trusting them much either - the personal security industry was one of the great benefactors of this time, with burglar alarms of all sorts being a necessity in these new communities. This lifestyle - if we can call it that - was so different from the worlds most of us older folk grew up in, where we knew all our neighbours, saw and spoke with them regularly, and locked doors or cars were unheard of.
Announcer Mindableness: Yes indeed, Murk, when I visit my sisters in Upper Canada I have noticed that a lot of people have locked doors, not knowing the people they have lived beside for 10 or 20 years or longer. And I also remember visiting my uncles and aunts when I was younger, and going to potluck socials and things like that, where everyone knew everyone else in the small communities.
Mourk: Right, Mindableness-the-lovely, and what we have been doing here in the CSE Research Center is looking all around the world at a new kind of community - Intentional Communities seems to be the popular term for them these days - where people who have been bothered by the impersonal lifestyles forced on them by the capitalist system have been organising themselves into communities where a different set of values prevails - where they can live freely and safely, and meet with their neighbours on evenings and weekends rather than watching tv, as most western people seem to do now, when at least they are not at the malls buying more useless stuff.
Announcer: Great, Morkymurk, just great. So where is the first place you are taking us, on this etherian trip tonight?
Mork: Hahaha good one Mindable! - well, one of the oldest such communities is called Findhorn, and it is located in Scotland. I’ll just let you listen to the words of Michael BraveSpirit as an introduction......

Sir, I’m really sorry - we've tried EVERYTHING short of a nuke - and I’m not even sure that would work. They seem to be able to counter EVERY blocking device we have available. It's getting a little uncanny sir - the last time we bombarded them with Super Secret Micro Wave Recipe XX89*&-GHUY++FUBIG - about three seconds later the theme from that old tv show Twilight Zone started beeping out of our headsets all through HQ here - it really spooked some of the men, let me tell you. de de de de de de de de - all that you know.
I really don’t know what to try next, Sir - maybe you ought to consider the Final Solution or something??

There’s gonna be a lot of Final Solutions happening around here soon enough. Be warned. And don’t screw up the email erase programs eh!!!???? You KNOW what happens when those IndyMedia fuckers or whatever they call themselves get ahold of this stuff.

Those students will do as they’re told while they're in high school. When they get to university, THEN they can start to think for themselves! G. MacDonald, Principal (your “pal!!” children hahaha), Birchdale High School, Charlottetown, explaining his refusal to let a teacher show his students a film on right-wing fundamentalism in America, and its influence on politics in that country. Mr. MacDonald was a fundamentalist himself. In the way of things on the Island, the teacher lost his job, spent years fighting it in court and never won anything but lots of grief and white hair, while Mr. MacDonald went on to become the Mayor of Charlottetown.

SUBJ: Your Article: Stephen Bigelow - Hole in Tims
April 1 2xxx
TO: The Editor, Island Rebel Rousers Emag - Island Voice of the Left! - but not left behind!!
CC: Charlottetown Colonial
FROM Crystall Central (or Christine on Thursdays hahaha - not to mention Cathy - oh, when I feel a certain way, you know...)
Your title, comparing Stephen Bigelow to a Tim Hortons donut, is certainly cute, but equally certainly meaningless - a better title might actually be "Fifth columnist Defeatme: Benedict Arnold of the Canadian Left". (I'm available for Titles for a small retainer each month, if you want to improve your publication...).
It's rather unclear to me why Rebel Rousers would print something like this - Mr. Defeatme would have undoubtedly found an appreciative audience with the National Pispot or Fraser Institute, who miss no opportunity to knock anything to the left of the American Republicons, and are certainly pretty worried about Stephen Bigelow right now, with polls showing his popularity, and how people are very disinclined to vote for the Liberals or Conservatives in the upcoming PEI election. This election will be very, very important, and Stephen Bigelow represents the best chance we have had in years, in confluence with some other factors, to get some sane and influential voices in the Island government. Now is NOT a time for the usual type of sniping and bickering so common on "the left" in PEI - now is a time to gather together to take a mighty shot at getting rid of corporate government in PEI (and be an example for Canada!), or at least taking the first steps in that direction - and stuff like this doesn't help.
It might be different if Mr. Defeatme had some useful criticisms which might strengthen our work at this time when we need to be getting our act together as strongly and coherently as possible - but most of this is nothing more than the usual brainless spiteful bash bash bash we see so often, as so many people seem determined to stay the"same old same old" "leftist" course of divide and conquer ourselves we seem to excel at, leaving us all wandering around dizzy and ineffectual from self-inflicted wounds when we need to be on top of our games. The Charlottetown Con-Lib Backroom Boys Club must love it! (if they aren't actually paying for it - but holy cow we certainly wouldn't want to EVER suggest there was any sort of conspiracy here ohmygodno!!).
Let's just quickly look at a couple of examples of Mr. Defeatme's "criticisms" of Bigelow, which exemplify the standards of "thought" or "proof" of the whole tirade - really, I've read better justifications for a "point-of-view" from high school kids explaining why they haven't done their homework - which I have heard far too many of in my time as a teacher here, and which Mr. Defeatme evidently hasn't done - quite a sad piece of "writing" altogether.
"... If an ex-Liberal deputy prime minister is now welcome inside the NDP, and even good gosh! an ex-Tory prime minister, doesn't this suggest that maybe the NDP itself has become indistinguishable from these parties?..." Come come - when we read of an NDPer going to the Libs, do we assume the Libs have become indistinguishable from the NDP?!?! Hardly! - one suggesting such a thing would receive some strange looks in return, no doubt. Likewise the reverse - just maybe there are other ways of looking at this (leaving aside for the moment the fact that NONE of the people mentioned have actually "joined" the NDP, nor even appear likely to - nothing more than rumours about it all - rather telling that rumours represent the opening "proof" given by Mr Defeatme to justify his anti-Bigelow tirade...). But even if there were some substance to such rumours, just maybe the parties these people once belonged to have moved away from THEM! - maybe the parties they once belonged to have become indistinguishable not only from one another but from the Republicons (sic!) of the great US they seem to worship - and the individuals in question do not see themselves as fitting in their former parties anymore, and are looking for something more akin to their own centrist-Canadian beliefs - something like the NDP - both politicians Mr. Defeatme refers to were well known for being on the "pink-Tory" or "left" sides of their parties, both of which have moved FAR to the right over the last decade or two. (Further, it is nothing short of ludicrous, and evidences a COMPLETE lack of awareness of what is going on in today's PEI, to say that the Bigelow Independents (if I might coin a phrase - I know he does not purport to be a leader of any sort, yet he is widely viewed that way, and is certainly approached as their spokesperson more than anyone else...) or NDP are indistinguishable from the Grizzly Martin Libs or BushforBrains’s new Island Republicon party (I'm going to demand some sort of Truth in Political Party Names law one of these days when I get around to it, and figure out who to write to about it - maybe if Mr. Bigelow wins the election (YES PLEASEGOD YES!!!!)).
Is Mr. Defeatme familiar with the differences in, oh for instance the parties all rah-rah GREAT!!! about the "new"American Star Wars plan (Martin and BushForBrains) and the parties opposing it (Bigelow et al.) - a rather significant difference, I think; or the difference between the parties supporting ever more, new and improved "freetrade", NAFTA, WTO etc and those wanting to get out of them (again, Martin-BushForBrains and Bigelow, respectively), the difference between supporting the FPTP electoral system which allows the Libs and "Conservatives" to continue playing tweedledum-dee with the Island elections with the support of maybe 30% of the voters, and wanting to change to the much fairer Prop Rep system (as above), etc and etc? It would seem Mr. Defeatme ought to invest in some new glasses or something, if in his eyes the Libs, BushForBrains people and NDP are "indistinguishable". Really. One hardly needs to read further, upon realising what a lack of understanding Mr. Defeatme has about what he professes to talk about.
But one does, in wonderment....
And continues on to this beauty - "...And if you add to that Bigelow's recent offer to back a minority Liberal government should that be the outcome of the next election, you're really left scratching your head. I mean, here is Bigelow routinely denouncing Grizzly Martin as a corporate robber baron and then he goes and offers to keep this same robber baron in power. What sort of progress is that?..." Hmmmm - has Mr. Defeatme read much history? It was back a few years, but if he can recall the days of NDP-influenced minority governments of Libs Pearson and Trudeau in Upper Canada (both admittedly of a MUCH more populist bent than the corporate Martin, to begin with) in the late 60s and early 70s, which had a LOT to do with such things as Canadian medicare, UIC, OAP, and so on, he might have a slightly different understanding of these things. Should the NDP have this opportunity this year, Bigelow has said that the first condition for agreeing to support the Island Libs in a limited sense would be the holding of a binding referendum of some sort, asking Islanders if they wanted to switch from the so-destructive FPTP electoral system we have been labouring under to a form of Proportional Representation, which, while not solving all of our problems, would be a HUGE step forward, and give all of the other people Mr. Defeatme apparently supports a chance to get some seats in parliament, where their voices would be heard, which is almost impossible under our current system.
It's hard to figure what Mr. Defeatme actually wants, reading over this missive, because he spends a lot of time disparaging Bigelow and the NDP and almost none suggesting what would be a better political option outside of "socialism", which he does not in any way define (although frequently disparaging Bigelow and others for just such a failure to precisely define what they mean by various words), apparently as originally envisaged a hundred+ years ago, a vision which is somewhat impractical in the modern world with most important conditions very different from what they were back then, not unlike the steam locomotive for instance, which was amazing when it was new, but now we have other, rather better modes of transportation, as we have new and better visions for sharing, equitable and democratic societies based on the new conditions in which we live.
But surely Mr. Defeatme can understand that whatever he wants, whatever progressive things the NDP or whoever he considers "progressive" want, are just NOT going to happen overnight - they are going to take time, step by step. Many of us would like to see a perfect world or society, and have our own views on what that perfect place would be like - but even if some miracle happened and we became the Island government tomorrow, the changes required to make that dream a reality would take time - there would be a lot of resistance from the entrenched powers who benefit, often greatly, from the status quo, and even a lot of resistance from those who would benefit the most, as most people are wary of great change. To petulantly sulk like a child, demanding "ALL OR NOTHING RIGHT NOW!!!!" - that is to say, if "our team" does not have control of the government and thus freedom to do as it wishes, it must NOT try to work with whoever is in power to accomplish some small gains, is just not a very realistic way of looking at things. And yet that is apparently one of his major criticisms of Bigelow and the NDP - that they are willing to compromise, take small steps, getting what concessions they can from the Libs in return for some limited support - rather than sulking in the corner and accomplishing nothing if you can't have EVERYTHING you want, which Mr. Defeatme appears to feel is the preferable alternative.
One would think such a strong socialist (?) as Mr. Defeatme would have a better understanding of many things, but especially history, which shows clearly that ALL progress happens in small steps - and we were making good progress for decades and centuries - progress which, in Canada, peaked in the early 1970s (again, after several years of NDP-influenced minority governments!), at which point the Corporate Revolution began, to try (rather successfully) to roll back this progress, and we have been taking rather larger steps backwards since then. Canadians and Islanders are starting to understand this, and many PE-Islanders see Bigelow/NDP as the chance to reverse this reverse, if you will, at least here in PEI, and resume our progressive journey.
One has to wonder seriously why someone like Mr. Defeatme is so determined to try to make sure the NDP or Independents don't do any better in this election than they have in the past few. At this time in our history, with most people pretty upset with the Libs, and equally distrustful of the far-right BushForBrains people - who exactly has an interest in making sure that the people of PEI don't make a logical change, and vote for the Indies or NDP? Hmmmmmm.
With the Rustico Vision Party, or the Island wing of the CAP, or Bigelow or the NDP this year, all working together in the sense that they are conducting a futuristic strategic voting campaign and NOT dividing the anti-corporate government vote, the Indies have a much stronger and more credible presence, and considering the widespread "fed-up-ness" with the Libs and the equally widespread dislike and distrust of the FAR-right BushForBreakfast people, and the availability of the internet for campaigning, somewhat offsetting the corporate press and their freezing out of alternative voices, there is a window of opportunity we have not had in a long time to get some strong voices in the Island parliament - it is not unrealistic to hope for the influential voice the collective Indies might command in a minority government, which could be, Mr. Defeatme's ill-informed and simply incorrect criticisms aside, a very positive thing for us.
And if we do NOT do this - if we turn away from, or turn on, Bigelow and the rest, what is the alternative? Well, same old same old - Libs or BushForBrains’s people (two branches of the same party, of course, the Charlottetown MacInbred Back St Boys Party, I think of them as) waltz again into power, with the votes of 20-30% of Islanders, and on we go on the merry capitalist road. Mr. Defeatme seems to dislike this path, as do the rest of us, so it is quite contrary of him to do his best to see that we lose this great opportunity to get off it by destroying any possible alternative before it really gets out of the starting gate.
Well, one could go on at length dissecting Mr. Defeatme's letter, but it poses little challenge and would be a waste of more of a good morning. I do want to respond to one more thing though - Mr. Defeatme says ".... if you try to pin (Bigelow) down about where his progressiveness is meant to lead, his ideas go fuzzy like cotton candy..." and then "...Bigelow's response is pure donut: If you're on a truthful journey you can't be sure where you will end up in the long term. I especially like the Zen-like touch about the truthful journey. Here you have the leader of the Island's major left-wing movement happily admitting that he has no idea where he's going...."
This is almost too far out to respond to, but since he has got space in Rebel Rousers, a fairly respectable journal of the non-wacko-rightwing on PEI, to spread this kind of nonsense, one feels one must respond, in fear that a lack of response will lead others to believe that others believe this utter crap. If Mr. Defeatme doesn't understand "progressive" - as that word is used by people on the "center-left" in Island and Canadian politics - then frankly he ought to do a bit more reading before he starts writing - it means such things as fair taxation, government of, by and for the people rather than of, by and for the corporate sector and banks, not privatising medicare or water, pursuing a path of peace and justice rather than war and privilege, and so on. It is nonsensical to demand that Bigelow or anyone else define every word they use when talking to someone, and accuse them of "...ideas (...) fuzzy like cotton candy" if they fail to.
And then to deride him for uttering one of the most insightful and truthful things ever said by a Canadian politician, or any "modern" western politician for that matter, "...If you're on a truthful journey you can't be sure where you will end up in the long term..." - well, one is almost speechless at the blindness, the cold, practical "non-starry-eyed" capitalist outlook, of Mr. Defeatme, both literally and spiritually - this is exactly the kind of crap one would expect from a Fraser Institute "anal”-ysis" of Bigelow. Such a comment, indeed, says a GREAT deal more about Mr. Defeatme's petty withered spirit than about Mr. Bigelow or many of us who also believe such things as not being able to foresee the future exactly, but who do indeed go into that future on the wings of a dream, boldly daring that vision and road even though we do NOT know what tomorrow will bring or where this path will lead - but we believe that with men and women of good will striding that path bravely together, working like hell to make a vision of life and beauty to replace the spirit-less slave world ratrace of the capitalists, it will go to good places! And what we DO know is that the path we are on in this modern, corporate-led world, the world of Martin and Bush’sBrain and Bay St., with average citizens being little more than slaves to Investors and Profits and Banks and Trade Treaties, and the people and the environment of our world be damned in the names of these modern gods, with the Canadian and Island governments following along behind the Americans like apathetic obedient will-less mindless hunchbacks, pepper-spraying and jailing its own citizens on phony, secret "terrorist" charges to impress their Washington overlords, is a future full of blackness and lifelessness and evil, and we do NOT wish to be on that path.
Well, enough for one day - I have more important things to do than try to convince those who have given up and now want to drag everyone else down to their Feast of Hopelessness and Backstabbing to get back on their feet and join the real fight - it's a bleak, bleak world you speak for, Mr. Defeatme, if you think that Pete GrizzlyMartin or BushForBrains offer a better choice for Islanders than Stephen Bigelow, and I for one will fight to prevent their dystopic vision from happening. We may or may not achieve some kind of Utopia someday, Mr.Defeatme - but one thing I can tell you for sure, is that we sure as hell will not achieve it if we don't even try, and that is why I choose to support Stephen Bigelow, imperfect though he may be (I doubt anyone would measure to your standards, Mr. Defeatme).
Quite frankly, I think Mr. Defeatme ought to reformat his metaphor here - it appears to me that Bigelow is the donut, and Defeatme and whoever else he speaks for are the hole in the middle where their support for the only progressive person with a chance to have an impact in this election ought to be but is rather sadly - and noticeably - missing. (Quite an unholy state of affairs altogether HAHAHAHAHAHAAA sorry - I don't know what it's supposed to mean but just couldn't resist.

Case Number SSC-2XXX-55-44-3-ZZZY: The Green Island Government vs The Trolls (The TRUTH Outside-The-Box Version, all Lies replaced with TRUTH ("legal" version filed with the SCC available on their website - as this is a family publication, we try to avoid encouraging such obscenities herein...))
PLAINTIFFS, "A"-List:
**The CCCE - NAFTA IS the Supreme Law of the Land!
**The "legally" elected (40% of votes, 60% turnout, 20% of Canadians excluded from voting rolls for various reasons (age, etc) - thus the current government enjoys the support of some 20% of the people of Canada, yet is considered "legally" elected with Dictatorial Powers for Five Years) Government of Canada - for many reasons, i.e Green Island unilaterally abrogated NAFTA (and only America is allowed to do stuff unilaterally - one of the perks of being the Planet’s Only Superpower), which the feds maintain is their prerogative entirely, but most importantly the so-called GRIS-Currency - the Canadian gov maintains that only IT has the Legal Authority to provide money in Canada, and if it wishes to borrow that money into existence, a policy backed by ALL leading economists, thus creating an excuse to turn 30% of all tax money EVER collected into the foreseeable future over to the Banks who create the money and LOAN it to the Feds - then that is the most fiduciarily responsible course to follow, and no Canadian shall question this. The Canadian Government ALWAYS does what is best for the bankers CITIZENS of Canada.
** The Canadian Bankers Association - see above - see, you guys in this backwater here owe us a billion bucks, so we own ya - the vigorish is a hundred million a year from you pipsqueaks on PEI, and pay up or we break your legs, capice asshole? Don’t whine about hospitals or education or any shit like that - if God wanted you to have hospitals He would have given you hospitals like he gave to us rich guys - but instead He gave you Banks. Awright?? And don't try to get around the in perpetuity part of the small print with this monopoly money Green Island Currency shit - we just won’t allow it, right? Legs, arms, heads, pepper spray, 809 years for Terrorist-related Activities - whatever it takes. Capice you stupid little treehuggers hahahahaha?!?!?!
** The Liberal and Conservative Parties of PEI, who maintain jointly and separately and all other ways that it just isn’t right that one of them did not win the election - this is how things have always been done on PEI, and the voters obviously would have voted differently had they understood the results that would - umm - result from the way they voted. The other guys lied a lot, anyway, and that isn’t fair. WE would NEVER lie. The Island Supreme Court has rectified such poor choices by voters before, as it has confirmed that we DO NOT LIE!!! - and we are sure the Supreme Court of Canada can find sufficient precedent to return the Island government into its traditional, proper hands. Us. HAHAHAHA
** Various PEI law offices, who hold that they have selected every Island government since the Island was a colony of King George, and By George they certainly did not select this one, therefore based on LONG tradition it is illegitimate and must be dismissed. With damages, don’t forget. We have expenses, you know. And no appeals until the damages are paid, SOP. hahahahahaha what a bunch of suckers hahahahahaha
** The Government of the United States of America - the so-called Green Island Government is breaching hundreds of important UN resolutions and International Treaties, and the US stands ready to Defend the World in the Name of Democracy! And if that means we have to drop a few bombs and spread a bit of DU around this little North Atlantic Iceland (hahaha clever Ed get that writer an incentive something!), and single-handedly defend Democracy in the World by bravely confronting this New Hitler-DEVIL!!! -Saddam-FaceOfEvil named Bigelow, this vicious dictator who has usurped the Island government and levied nameless horrors on his people and filled the Island with Mass Graves in a Genocidal Rampage Holacaust!!!! - if we have to undertake a Regime Change to get rid of this Monster - why then, that has ever been America’s calling, to stand up for Democracy and Freedom in the World, and defend it against those who Hate America because of our Great Freedom and Democracy!!!! Our position is completely honourable, and has NOTHING to do with Radio-Free Green Island spreading commie propaganda all around the world that we can’t seem to block, or Green Island Linux wiping Microlimp off the face of the planet through fair competition, or the fact that they have NO military at all so can’t possibly fight back and those are the very BEST countries to bomb the fuck out of, or any other stupid conspiracy theories of that nature. And we got LOTS of bombs and guns and dead-eyed-soldiers and the biggest armaments industry in the history of the world if you don’t agree with all that hahahahahaa. Think about it if you know what’s good for you. It’s the American way. On your face and spread em. ALL TOGETHER NOW!!!! I’M A YANKEE DOODLE DANDYYY!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA FROM THE HALLS OF MONTEZUMA ..... so, where the fuck is Montezuma, Doc? HAHAHAHAHAHAA
** Microlimp - totally pissed at Green Island Linux for being unable to sell any ML products at ALL on Green Island the last few years - dealers offering this product are met with uproarious laughter for trying to charge big bucks for such a pathetic OS when Green Linux is available for almost free, and is FAR FARFARFAR superior, in every way, most especially reliability - and decimating ML markets around the world as fast as the “vastly superior” (Consumer’s Weekly) Green Island Linux can be manufactured and shipped - MicroLimp’s “how much time do you want to waste today?!?!?” philosophy is finally passé - if you’re kind of having a slow day and have nothing better to do with your time than reboot and rewrite and restore info - ML is great! - you can spend a whole DAY doing practically NOTHING!!!! - but for REAL productivity - Green Island Linux is the place to be - that sort of advertising is allowed on Green Island, because it is true - in countries where Corporations Rule, such truth-in-advertising is not allowed, is positively frowned upon in fact, Manufactured “Truth” being much more desirable by the rulers - and ML apparently feels that since it rules everywhere else, it ought to rule in Green Island as well
** MacIrvingInbreds - we've OWNED the Island governments for decades, and you sons of bitches will NOT take it from us!

From the Annals of the Galactic Historical Society - Vol. 87,633
From Planet Earth: Pre-Galactic History Period: Canada, by U. Sheava, Earth Studies Scholar
..... During the late 20th century there had been, following the great killing episode they called World War Two, the “common” (that is to say, in their primitive terminology of the day, those who were not of the ruling class) people of the planet, in the wealthier western societies, had begun making some fairly significant strides in achieving a limited form of democracy, wherein the people they elected in their elections actually tried to represent them and make living conditions better in their countries. One of the leading countries in this movement was a place called Canada, and by BGE* 35 (approx) the people of that country had an excellent universal public health care system, protection for unemployed workers or those who had no jobs or money, old age pensions for the elderly, education available for all who qualified, honest and efficient public service, and so on. As part of this security, the people were demanding ever greater things from their government, desiring to advance ever further in their society, and it was at this time that the entrenched elite in Canada, in cahoots with elites in other western countries, apparently very concerned at this “democratic crisis” which threatened their power, fomented the Corporate Revolt.
Clearly, for a government to function, as much as an individual in a money-based society, it requires - money. Capitalists understand the power of money very well, so their instrument to reduce this nagging nuisance of expanding and increasing citizen democracy was simply that - take away their money! Blunt but effective. This was done through two main channels - and the capitalist elite, always ready for some windfall profits, made sure that they would benefit from the means used to reduce democracy - that is, the people would be forced to pay for their own chains. First, they simply demanded that the governments lower their corporate taxes - many excuses were available, primarily the one of competitiveness with other countries whom, it was always alleged, falsely, had lower taxes. Secondly, as the governments faced income shortages following the reduced income from corporate taxes, they were faced with the problem of where the money was going to come from, if they didn’t want to reduce the social support systems, such as medicare, the citizens were used to, and would grumble if they were taken away - the government could use the people’s bank, the Bank of Canada, to issue the money debt-free, or the government could use commercial banks, and borrow the money into existence. Driven by the stealth corporate revolution, they, of course, chose the latter course.
And over a period of 10 years or so, with some timely help from the Bank of Canada (for the corporate revolution, not the people!!!!) in the form of a rather lengthy interest rate spike to 20% or so, the borrowed money ballooned into a huge “national debt” (the ludicrousness of a sovereign nation, empowered solely to create the national money supply, “borrowing” that money supply into existence, was, strangely enough, apparently never questioned by the citizens of that country...), which required huge amounts of money to "service" (interestingly enough, getting "serviced" meant getting "fucked" in the agrarian terminology still in use in many places at the time) - tax money, of course. So the governments, instead of using the tax money as it was intended, for citizen programs such as health care or education, were turning over 30% or more of that money straight to the banks or other wealthy investors who loaned them the money they might have printed themselves. Together with an endless stream of propaganda in the corporate-controlled media, spreading the outrageous and perverse lie that it was the citizens themselves and their very own greed which had resulted in this “national debt” and the ONLY way to behave now was to cut back in all areas of social spending in order to continue servicing their debt, these two ploys effectively stifled the money supply so necessary for decent government, and thus began the process of rolling back citizen expectations of democracy and the good life that all deserved and could have, given the wealth of the country, into a simple struggle for survival - it is well known and documented that as long as the first concern of people is providing food and shelter for their families, they are not going to be thinking much about abstract concepts like democracy - nor are they going to have the time to educate themselves about such things in any effective way. Less educated people are also more susceptible to mass propaganda, which reached a peak in effectiveness during the same time period (see section on Control of Civilian Populations in the 20th Century - the "Communist" vs the "Capitalist" Experiments in same article)

Journals of Cheryl Labrador, NDP member West Prince 1, 1st Green Island Government - god we need an honest media!

Well, it’s obvious now if it wasn’t before that one of our very TOP priorities has to be to get some kind of daily newspaper ASAFP around here that at least tries to tell a bit of the truth - the Colonial might better be renamed Pravda PEI or something, it is so blatantly biased against us, so completely unconcerned with telling the truth or what blatant lies it spreads about us. We knew this before, of course, but at least before the election they made some token efforts at giving us a bit of space, and printed columns or responses to columns by some of us - now nothing but lies and propaganda trying to destroy us. Absolutely disgraceful, no other word for it. Stephen wrote to the Canadian Newspaper Council, but they don’t seem interested, surprise surprise - “We’re confident that the PEI press is in good hands, Mr. Bigelow - and if they need investigating concerning any of your rather far-fetched allegations, we are sure they will request such a measure....”. As Burke or whoever said - freedom of the press belongs to those who own one.
We’re looking around - maybe a miracle will happen or something. But if we don’t get something going soon, they’ll bury us under these lies. Jim McVeracity in Montanoguff does his best, but he’s only weekly, and when I talked to him yesterday he also said he was getting some hassle from the banks about his loans, and things are shaky there too.
Thank god for the Net - we've got a big mailing list now, a lot of new interest internationally too, which should help, and with so many people having printers as well, they can print off flyers and post them up in all the small stores around the Island, where people gather and talk. And I know from my own travels that many Islanders are quite willing to give us a chance - we just have to take advantage of it fast, before someone takes it into their heads that the Island needs a regime change or something hahahahaha.
Otherwise things are just ducky hahahaha!!!! - we’re opening the new session next week, and we have a legislative agenda like this province has never seen before!

Dear Diary - Well, that’s 201 I guess.
As Rude would say - fuck em hahahahahahahaaa.
