030922 - People's Party??

First - have a boo at the new Kaminski page if you haven't heard of the guy already.

The sense of unreality goes on and on and on and on - here we have the Premier of Ontario acting like he's participating in a schoolyard election for king of the sandbox, holding up a Monopoly "get out of jail free" card in one hand and a strand of barbed wire in the other - theatrics for the voters (them damned liberals are soft on crime and give all the crooks a free pass - we Tories put em behind barbed wire. Ain't that just SOOOO fucking clever!!!! - and certainly what I wanted to hear, anyway - fuck you'd think they'd hire people who had graduated from fucking grade school at least to run their campaigns....). The only thing sadder is that so many people seem to be playing in the same sandbox, including many who have the amazing hubris to call themselves "journalists" and "citizens". These are the same people who came up with the phrase sure to go down in electoral history to disparage their opponent - a "..kitten eater from another planet.." - honest to fuck, how could you vote for any of these people to run a province like Ontario?!??! - well, I guess the fact that a lot of people have, and will, explains a lot about the mess that province is in now, with blackouts threatening this winter, the teachers so pissed at the government they're liable to all quit, universities so starved for funding they have to raise tuition levels to a level where more and more students cannot afford to attend, not enough nurses and doctors because the government laid them all off, etc etc et-fucking-cetera - and the same people who created all this mess promising MORE fucking tax cuts in the future - and evidently next to nobody capable of understanding it was tax cuts that caused all the fucking problems in the first place!!! It is to laugh in despair - the very fact that these people are taken more or less seriously says damn near all that needs to be said about the trouble our province, country and world are in. Mom. MOMMMM I WANNA COME HOME NOW!!!! GET ME OFF THIS CRAZY PLACE!!

Or what about this, on the bigger stage - White House, UN condemn attack on Iraqi leader (CBC Sat, 20 Sep 2003) - the "White House" and the UN "...condemning an attack" on an Iraqi leader - first noting that this is actually an American-Iraqi leader (not in nationality, but in fact - about the LAST thing these people are going to allow is a democratically elected Iraqi government, whose FIRST act would be to tell the Americans to get the fuck out of their country, and forget about the oil hahahahaha) - attacking people anytime anywhere for no particular reason, especially those classifiable as civilians, is not a great idea - but what screams out here is the incredible fucking hypocrisy of the Americans, again and again and again and again - they constantly brag about how many Iraqis and Al Quaedas they have killed, no trial, no warning, no nothing, just the biggest street gang the world has ever seen wandering around the world hunting down anyone it wants to - and that is just fucking great - ain't we some fucking hot shit HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!! - got Saddam's kids a few weeks ago, and some 14-year old kid too!! AIN'T WE HOT!!! HAHAHAHAH - medals all around boys!!!! - but what happens when any of them get killed?!?!?! - well, you know the story. It would be interesting to make some of these fuckers explain the rationale behind that, why it is that some killing is great but other killing just awful - but then again, they probably couldn't get beyond sesame-street level stuff - "America good!!! Everyone else evil!!! Is OK for Americans to kill anyone! - BAAAADDDD for ANYONE to kill American!! You de man george!!" No wonder no one from some real civilisation in the galaxy hasn't contacted us - they'd probably be afraid of getting infected with the stupidity bug that seems to be endemic here.

On the other hand! - Some good stuff if you haven't seen it yet -

A real power struggle Hydro privatisation will be the No. 1 issue in provincial election and Insurance Myths both by a lady called Linda Leatherdale - writing for that bastion of neocon herdbeasts The Sun chain - the neat thing is, she strongly denounces both privatisation of the hydro system in Ontario in the first piece, and strongly promotes public auto insurance in the second - great stuff!!! - but I gotta wonder how long she's gonna keep her job though, writing socialist shit like this in the lowbrow Capitalist Times of Ontario!!

And this - Rotten in Denmark, not so clean in Ottawa by LAWRENCE MARTIN, in the Blob - it's really cool when some real reporting sneaks into the papers these days, even if the motives are always suspect (i.e. in this piece he spends quite a lot of time trashing the current libs - obviously the backhand message is that someone else might be better - while spending no ink at all on the equally corrupt Harris Tories in Ontario, for some reason...) - anyway, as mentioned before, there is a lot of corruption in our government even though people like to pretend otherwise - and even though Martin here completely ignores the untouchables like the debt scam and the "democracy" scam, he touches on a few interesting things. But a one-shot wonder of course - once a year we see something like this, to "prove" the media is doing its job - the other 364 days it's LOWER TAXES LOWER TAXES LOWER TAXES BABY YEAHH!!!

- and a couple more good ones on the ongoing expose of 911 - September 11th And The Bush Administration - Compelling Evidence for Complicity by Walter E. Davis, PhD - well-referenced summary of how the story of what the government says happened is as full of holes as Swiss cheese (look - it's late...) [[RM archive copy]]. And this - The Twin Tower's Demolition - short but strong summary focusing on how the actual fall of the WTC towers just does not have anything to do with what the government says happened - if you believe the government story, you probably believe that the Sun revolves around the Earth, which is flat anyway.

And here's an interesting story that came my way from somewhere I have now forgotten - maybe Borque, maybe Rabble - GREEN PARTY REQUESTS FORMAL CRTC DECISION ON DEBATE EXCLUSION - the Green Party of Ontario is apparently running 102 candidates in the 103 ridings of Ontario in this election - and yet the various television channels that are hosting the leader's debate this Tuesday have decided that they will not be included in that debate. It is, of course, outrageous. And very indicative of the state of "democracy" in Canada and Ontario, and the high regard (sarcasm alert) with which this noble vision is held by Ontario's media - as is also the fact that I haven't seen a thing about it in any of the mainstream media, who are all in favor, of course, under the direction of corporate Canada, of Tweedledum-Tweedledee "democracy" - run with the PCs for awhile, and when people are sick of them, put on a dog and pony show and give them the LIBS **** OH WOW OH GREAT DEMOCRACY THANK YOU SO MUCH@!!! - and then a few years down the road when the same old shit is going on with the Libs and people are sick of the corruption and lies and everything getting worse instead of better - THE GREAT NEW PCS!!!! and so on and so on and so forth. I guess there's a reason history and politics and stuff like that aren't taught much in school - we wouldn't want our new voters finding out about this shell game too soon. Likewise the debate - were the people of Ontario allowed to see the Green Party spokespeople live, and hear their ideas, I expect a whole fucking lot of them would be giving them serious consideration - and of course, since the Green Party is not beholden to the Bay St puppeteers, letting them anywhere near the halls of power is just not going to happen. That might be Democratic in reality - and that ain't gonna be allowed no siree bobs yer fuckin uncle baby.

Any TRULY Democratic process would see the PEOPLE deciding who was credible and who was not - not the media and the Bay St funders. Any truly democratic process would see the media required to give ALL candidates equal space in their papers or tv shows, no restrictions, and no special treatment for those with more money. Let the fucking people decide who was credible and who wasn't - isn't that supposed to be what democracy means?!?!?

Oh well - of course it is. And equally of course we have NOTHING like real democracy in this country - a name and a shell game.

Well - somewhat in the same vein, or at least sort of the same topic -

Letter of the Week!!!

- no, not another unpublished media letter this time!! - a story a couple of days ago told about how Peter McKay, the new PC leader, is tossing his promise to David Orchard, with whose support he won the leadership contest, to have nothing to do with any talk about joining in any way with the "Alliance" - a move, of course, from the book on Politics of the Far Right Wackos - promises are not worth the paper they are written on to these people, who have no fucking honour whatsoever - like most crooks and conmen or lesser mortals driven by greed and stupidity. Anyway, I have supported David and his bid to win the leadership of the PC party, although I thought it sort of Quixote-ish (not a slur!! - I think very highly of Quixote-ish, as anyone who knows anything about my life will readily attest to), but his reasons were sound enough - the party of Sir John A and Diefenbaker had a long and honourable history, before the days of Mulroney, and I could understand his belief that it would be worth saving, worth offering himself as a more traditional leader, rather than the neo-con far right Mulroney sellout sort, in hopes that the traditional grassroots support would welcome his candidacy. Alas, such has not proved to be the case - it is as I feared, the Bay St. Republican-north boys are in firm control - like so much that is dishonest in the current politics, they took over an honourable old party and replaced the leadership with scumbags, but retained the old name to fool as many people as possible for as long as possible - especially the many people to whom politics is more or less a team sport - "My daddy voted Lib'rul and my grandpappy voted Lib'rul and I'm votin Lib'rul and by god my kids are votin Lib'rul and that's all I needs to know..." - which is a pretty sad sort of way to look at things when the people you're voting for are destroying the country your daddy and grandpappy built, hoping to make a better life for you and your kids. But it is an attitude the controllers, the elite, the Bay St. puppeteers certainly encourage - far better to have that kind of mindless reaction than actually thinking about what the people who want to be your leaders say, and how many lies they have told the last few years, and stuff like that.

Anyway - I thought I'd drop the boy a line (I'm old enough to say that, and he is a farmer, and farmers understand that kind of talk, be they from Ontario or Saskatchewan or Spud Island) and make another plea (no, it ain't the first one I've written) to him to get on board with a new party, a party of the people of Canada - and remember you read it here first!!! - about the New Paradigm in Canadian Politics - recognising that the Libs are now the party of the right (I had center-right, but I don't think they deserve that moderate sort of appellation anymore - they're well over the line, I think), the budding coalition of the "old"-PCs-Alliance as the far-right Republican-wannabe-'Merican wackos - and the NEW party that WILL be formed sooner or later, although sooner would be a fuck of a lot better for us, the Middle-of-the-Road Canada party, or whatever name it will eventually have, that represents the values of most Canadians, and will, as soon as the various actors on the non-Bay St-side of the political street get their fucking acts together and get it done, replace the Libs as the "natural" governing party of Canada. (The party the mainstream media will pretend does not exist for as long as they possibly can, and then denigrate with adjectives like "fringe" and "leftist" and "anarchist" and "socialist" or worse ("conspiracy theorists"!!!! - OOOOOOOO!!!!!), as the popularity of it starts to take off... - see above about the Green Party and the so-called "leader's debate" (that is to say, honestly labelled it would be something like "The Debate between the leaders of the Bay St. sanctioned parties" - yes, that would include the NDPs, as a third party is very useful to manipulate the vote to the current favorite between the other two...)

Fuck. Frankly, I should live so long. But one must have one's dreams.

Anyway, the letter to David (hey - you can write too if you want at davidorchard@sasktel.net, or check out his website at David Orchard :

Dear David,
I have supported your efforts to retake the PC party from the Mulroneyites since you first ran for the leadership several years ago - not because I have ever been a party member (before joining to support you), but because I believed in you as a person, as a Canadian who truly believes in Canada - I first learned of you through your CCAFT, and by reading your book The Fight for Canada (which still sits on my bookshelf where I can see it as I write - we do not have enough books like that about our country, and even after all these years it is still one of the best).

But I did have doubts about your chances of retaking the PC party, which changed both leadership and philosophy when taken over by Mulroney (or more accurately, I suppose, those behind-the-scenes people with the money who supported him) and, as I think you are well aware, might more honestly have been renamed the Republican Party of Canada, or something like that. I believe that at the time you first contested the leadership, and even the last time, you did speak for many former members of the party who had, shall we say, true "conservative" values of the kind dating back to such luminaries as Sir John A and more recently Diefenbaker - but I think that with the winning of the last leadership convention by McKay, it is apparent that the money and the powers behind the scenes, and a majority of the membership, are firmly Republican North in nature, and, with McKay's recent assertion in effect saying that, regardless of any promises made to you, he is still going ahead with talks about joining together in common cause with the so-called "Alliance" party, it is time for you to withdraw from the party gracefully and honourably and admit that the old PC party is, indeed, finished, and apply your great talent and energy to the same cause of saving Canada but in a new direction.

It is time, David, for you to take up a new challenge - the birth of a new Canadian Party, rising from the ashes of the old PC party, like a Phoenix, with new strength and vision.

It is time, I believe, for you to lead the way in unveiling a new political paradigm in Canada - a paradigm that has, indeed, already been established, but not yet recognised as such, with the Libs as the party of the center right, the old PC-Alliance occupying the fringe area of the far right, and a new party that is just waiting to be given formal shape and recognition - a party of the center, which is where you and I and most Canadians want to be - I don't have any particular name for it, but for reference herein let's just call it the Canadian MOR (middle of the road) Party.

A party that I, and a growing number of others, see as the only real chance we have of saving Canada from the CCCE/BCNI and Martin and their increasingly continentalist program after the (probable) election next year, closer and closer to the US until we have no autonomy whatsoever, a party that would be a joining together of all the forces on what the media currently call "the Left" in Canada, although in reality they are all much more in tune with the values of most Canadians than the business-dominated Libs, PCs, and Alliance - truly, what parties like the NDP and CAP and Greens (and what you wanted for the PCs) generally stand for are pretty middle of the road values, in modern Canada, supported by, I believe, most people in Canada - people have been, and continue to, support the Liberal party because they have been worried about the "far right" aspects of the Mulroney et al. PCPC and the Alliance, and the media have been marginalizing everyone else on "the Left" and doing their best to make them appear as not realistic options - but more and more, I think, Canadians are starting to see that the Libs have morphed into something new also, and are no longer the Liberal Party of history, of people like Pearson and Hellyer and Trudeau, but something much more to the right of those people, and considerably to the right of where most Canadians really want to be, and they are more than ready for a new party that speaks to their real values.

I think you know as well as I that the people of Canada now require a new party, a party that truly represents their values, as the Liberals and PCs used to do in the 60s and 70s to a much greater extent, but now both of which represent primarily the elite business class in the country.

If you, David, were to get together with people like Jack Layton, Paul Hellyer, and Mel Hurtig, and propose the founding of a new Canadian political party, a party of the Center, not the Left, a party that supported things most Canadians support, and would offer a solid, credible platform based on true Canadian values at the next election - well, we might yet save this country. We would certainly have a much better chance than if we go into that election with the current situation of a well-organised and funded Liberal party opposed by nothing more than half a dozen disorganized "fringy" parties dividing up the 60% or so of the non-Lib vote (as things currently stand).

I fear that if you continue your efforts with the PC party, whose leaders are so adamantly spurning you, and the NDP and CAP and Greens continue to go their separate ways - well, the Canadian voters, those of them who bother to vote, will continue to support the Libs - not as something they really want to do, but as the lesser of evils, not wanting to let the far-right PC-Alliance types into power, and having no other clear option to vote for.

Wouldn't it just be so great if the Canadian voters could have an option they could really believe in and support at the next election, rather than just trying to limit the damage being done to Canada?

I well understand there are many problems with such an idea, not the least of which would be leadership - but imagine a step further, if you will, a move into a new era of politics - Canadians are, rightfully so, pretty mistrustful of leaders these days, who are more famous for breaking promises than anything positive they might have done (hard to think, really, of anything positive that has been done in Canada since the days of Mulroney - the governments for almost 20 years have seemed more concerned about slashing spending on social programs and cutting taxes for the wealthy than doing anything constructive for ALL of us) - why not go a step further, and create a Leadership Council of some sort for the new party as part of an entirely new political paradigm of increased power to the people, where it really belongs anyway - this would in one step work towards removing the "power" games that such a merger as is proposed would create, and also show Canadians that we are indeed very serious about a new way of doing things - it would be pretty hard for Canadians to cynically say that four people such as yourself, Mel, Jack and Paul were lying to them or trying to deceive them - you all have long and honourable histories as strong spokespeople for Canada and Canadians, with no broken promises for people to point to. (Yes, it would indeed be wonderful if you could convince some of the strong female Canadian speakers for democracy to join the team, such as Maude Barlow or Connie Fogal, or Linda McQuaig or Naomi Klein, or others). This would not mean "no leader", but, much better, four (or a couple more) leaders - all well-known, trusted speakers known for their support of a free, democratic Canada, rather than a Canada which is little more than a supplier of raw materials and market for US corporations, as the Libs and Alliance seem to be encouraging ever more of.

Ah well, I dream and dream! - but please, David, give this some thought as you deal with the betrayal of McKay and the promise he made you - it is time to acknowledge that, sadly, the great party of MacDonald and Diefenbaker is no more, having been stolen and transformed irrevocably into something completely different and unrecognisable by the neocon movement in Canada - but their dreams of Canada for Canadians, and Canada as a leading country in the world, a progressive leader for the people and not the elites, are surely not dead, and can be resurrected in a great new movement by working with others who share those dreams.

A letter writer......
CC: Jack Layton, Mel Hurtig, Paul Hellyer

=======================================

Now we'll see about responses - I don't really expect any, as I have tried this sort of thing before, with no success. That's what happens to we people who spend most of our lives somewhere out in front of the pack - few people want to acknowledge our efforts, until they see which way the wind is blowing, or whatever.

BUT - if you want to copy this letter to anyone at all who might be interested in working on this or otherwise spreading the word, please do!! - or write to David or Mel Hurtig (mhurtig@telusplanet.net - Mel also has a low traffic mailing list of his speeches and some other things you can get on by writing to lgrisley@shaw.ca ) or anyone else you like.

Hell, it's a free world. Sort of. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

AHHHHH - later.

Write if ya want.

What direct action did you take today to do something to get rid of corporate government in Canada? Do you feel that it was enough, given the situation? Will you feel content telling that to your grandchildren, should they survive, and the country, and the planet?

So much left to say, so little time to say it in - probably only a year or so to the next federal election - do you want to try to save Canada in that frantic four weeks when big Paul drops the writ and EVERY friggin advantage is his - or would you like to start now, when we have some sort of outside chance? Canada for Canadians Coalition - get involved.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: With thanks to the Editors of the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, Ottawa Citizen, Ch'town Guardian, Vancouver Sun, and others I cannot think of at the moment, for their refusal to print my letters over the last few years on various issues of national import - had I even a hope of being printed occasionally in these fora and my voice acknowledged in the national debate, I would undoubtedly have not bothered putting all this together. Cheers!

(for the legal-minded types - all this stuff not otherwise credited to some newspaper or something IS original, and thus copyright by Rude Macedon - I don't even have to say it - check it out - but given that, repost at will, with acknowledgement. Letting me know would be nice too - and we do want to be nice people in a nice world, don't we? Isn't that why we are doing what we are doing, to get rid of the liars and crooks (NOT nice people) who are running things now?)
